Getting around Almería on public transport

Almería, is a fairly small city and its public transport system is easy to navigate. Here’s a quick guide to get you on your way.

Urban Bus Services

The primary mode of public transport within Almería is the urban bus network operated by Surbus. With sixteen lines covering the city, buses run from early morning until late evening, connecting key areas such as the city centre, university, beaches, and residential neighbourhoods. Operating Hours: Approximately 6:30 AM to 11:00 PM, varying by line.

Fares:

  • Single Ticket: €1.05, purchasable directly from the driver.
  • Bonobus (10-trip card): €6.70, available at kiosks and authorized vendors. This ticket allows you to transfer buses within an hour.

Interurban and Regional Buses

For destinations beyond the city, such as San José, Cabo de Gata, or El Ejido, interurban buses operated by companies like ALSA and Autocares Bernardo are available.

Single Ticket: Starting at €1.40, depending on the number of zones crossed.

Train Services

Cycling and Walking

Almería boasts over 80 kilometers of bike lanes, making cycling a pleasant way to explore the city. Popular routes include the Rambla de Almería, Nicolás Salmerón Park, and the Paseo Marítimo. Bike rentals are available throughout the city tourist office.

Walking is also a viable option, especially in the historic centre where many attractions are within close proximity.

Taxis and Car Rentals

Taxis are readily available and can be hailed on the street or booked via phone. Car rental services are also accessible for those wishing to explore the surrounding regions at their own pace.

Tourist Train

For a scenic overview of Almería’s historic sites, consider the Tourist Train. The 55-minute route covers landmarks such as the Circular Square, Cathedral Square, and Purchena Gate.
